The Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association maintains a Show Division
which is responsible for establishing show rules such as judging
criterion, performance classes and color rules. A show division
handbook is published each year updating any of these rules and
guidelines. Shows are held to promote public awareness of the unique
qualities of alpacas and to improve the breed and enhance their
marketability. New England breeders participate in shows here in the
region as well as all around the country and some are recognized as
having some of the very best breeding stock available anywhere in the
